Ciprian Muresan’s Rhinoceros
„Ciprian Muresan worked with and recorded a group of children from an elementary school in Iaşi. In his film, the children read from Eugene Ionesco’s well-known play Rhinoceros about the metamorphosis of a man into a rhino. The sound of the children’s voices unsettles and disturbs the moral consciousness of the viewer, shifting the emphasis of this metamorphosis from the responsibility of the individual to its collective germination.” – Attila Tordai-S.
RCINY will present the most recent incarnation of Ciprian Muresan’s disturbing and revealing video of Eugene Ionesco’s play Rhinoceros, as read onscreen by American children and recently filmed in New York City. To complete the series, a special viewing of the first version of Muresan’s Rhinoceros, filmed in Iassy with Romanian school children, will be shown simultaneously. Curated by Lara Taubman, this exclusive exhibit offers a contemporary interpretation of Ionesco’s 1959 play.
