During this ceremony 6 Grand Prix winners will be announced as 2010’s most outstanding examples of heritage protection. Each Grand Prix winner will receive an award of € 10,000.
These awards highlight some of Europe’s best achievements in heritage care, and they showcase remarkable efforts made in raising awareness about our cultural heritage. The European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Awards were jointly launched in 2002 by the European Commission and Europa Nostra, in the framework of the Commission’s Culture Programme, to celebrate examples highlighting Europe’s cultural heritage.
Categories range form the restoration of buildings and their adaptation to new uses, to urban and rural landscape rehabilitation, archaeological site interpretations, care for art collections, research, dedicated service to cultural heritage and awareness-raising.
The winners of the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage – Europa Nostra Awards 2010 were selected from nearly 140 projects from 26 countries submitted after an open call for interest. The awarded projects were selected by the Heritage Awards Juries, composed of independent experts from across Europe.
The deadline for next year’s Awards is 1 October 2010. The 2011 EU Prize for Cultural Heritage/Europa Nostra Awards ceremony will take place in Amsterdam in June 2011. See www.europanostra.org/heritage-awards/ for information and entry forms.
