La MaMa E.T.C. and The Romanian Cultural Institute in New York present
on Monday, October 1 at 7:30 pm at La MaMa – The Annex
Andrei Serban Traveling Academy in NYC:
work in progress
based on a novel by Tatiana Niculescu Bran
Conceived and launched this year under Romanian-American auspices, the Andrei Serban
Traveling Academy endeavors to bring the artistic energies of writers, actors, and directors
together within a laboratory-like setting, under the innovative guidance of prominent director
and inspiring teacher Andrei Serban.
The October 1 performance will present the work in progress resulting of the three-week workshop hosted by La MaMa E.T.C. starting with September 11, based on the nonfiction novel „Spovedanie la Tanacu” written by Tatiana Niculescu Bran.
“Crucified by fellow nuns and a priest, a young nun dies during a ritual of exorcism performed
in a remote Romanian monastery.” Thus read the headlines in dozens of newspapers around
the world in June 2005. But what is fact and what is fiction in regard to this sensational tale?
The performance is followed by Q&A with Andrei Serban, Tatiana Niculescu Bran and the participating actors.
In Romanian with English supertitles.
The actors are: Csilla Albert, Richard Balint, Ionut Caras, Ramona Dumitrean, Cristian Grosu,
Catalin Herlo, Cristina Holtzli, Silvius Iorga, Nora Labancz, Mara Opris, Florentina Tilea, and
Andrea Tokai.
