It was a sunny morning…
I think this is the way I remember it was in Lancaster, PA,
my left ankle broken not long before in August
falling down the stairs in San Diego,
then in a blue cast and still in blue this blue day of September
hanging out in my bed…praying for healing.
I called Jane just to chit-chat on a Tuesday morning,
must have been nine or so and then she gasped
asking me if I was watching the news
„We are being attacked, turn on your TV! – she yelled –
minutes after nine the second plane exploded in the skyscraper!
„Oh,My God! My Manhattan!” I gasped…we hang up and called our mothers.
I do not even remember what my mom said then,
and I kept calling my friends…but no one answered,
some of them do not answer even today,
I don’t know why, I don’t know why it had to happen.
And my cousin called from Romania at 9:30 AM
that blue day of September,
and I said we are alive but broken.
Nothing is the same in Manhattan
since then nothing is the same anywhere,
and we stand in sadness gazing at that whole in the ground,
some in fear, some in anger,
and we walk in sadness gazing at the blue sky of today,
nothing is the same, nothing is the same…
yet I think again – nothing ever changed
since the human race has been on this earth
prejudice and fighting, arrogance and fighting
still the same…
I don’t know when peace will bloom in every one’s heart!?
Today I’m dressed in purple-blue and black
mourning the ones gone forever,
weeping in remembrance,
hoping for a better world.
