EVENTS DEDICATE TO THE EUROPE DAY (May 9th, 2007)

Throughout the month of May the Embassy of Romania will organize or take part in a series of events dedicated to the celebration of Europe Day:

Starting May 1st : Participation in the “European poetry in motion” project organized in collaboration by the EU member states and the Delegation of the European Commission in Washington, under the coordination of the European Presidency, Germany.
A total of 135 poems, five from each country in both their original language and in English, will be on display inside Metro buses during the month of May. Additional advertising for this project will be featured on the outside of buses and in Metro stations.
The project’s website, www.europeanpoetryinmotion.eu, features all the poems, author biographies, country information and more. The site will be available for information and as an educational resource for one year.

May 5, from 2 – 7 p.m.: Poetry Reading Marathon hosted by the Goethe-Institute, in which representatives of each EU member state will read their country’s poems followed by the English translation. The event will be moderated by poet Ernie Wormwood.

May 7 – 8, at 6:30p.m.: EU Short Film Festival at the Goethe Institute
“Humanitarian Aid”, directed by Romanian film maker Hano Hoffer will be presented on Tuesday, May 8th, in the session starting at 6:30
Three young men from Western Europe arrive in Romania
with humanitarian aid. The inhabitants of a little mountain village have been waiting for them. There’s a little give and big take about the whole thing. Humanitarian Aid won the Canal+ Prize in the 2002 Clermont-Ferrand Festival.
